Added 3 days ago

Description

ISTA Personnel Solutions South Africa is a global BPO - not a recruitment agency - partnering with a USA-based client in the wellness industry.

Our client is a dynamic wellness organisation experiencing rapid growth and seeking a technical financial professional to elevate their back-office operations. We are seeking an Accountant with advanced analytical and reporting capabilities to support their financial planning and strategic decision-making. This is a back end, technical role focused on analysis and insights - not clerical or transactional work. You'll be equally comfortable managing complex spreadsheets, variance analysis, and financial modelling whilst supporting leadership with actionable financial intelligence.

Important: Applicants must have strong accounting experience and advanced Excel capability - candidates without it will not be considered.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Working Hours: This role requires you to work USA hours Mon – Fri from 9 am to 6 pm EST (3:00 PM to 00:00 AM South African time); however, these hours are subject to change depending on daylight savings.
  • Internet Requirements: A fixed fibre line with a minimum speed of 25 Mbps (upload & download) and the ability to support a wired Ethernet connection is mandatory. Applicants without a fixed fibre line cannot be considered.
  • Power Backup: A reliable power backup solution is required to manage load shedding and power outages. Applicants without a power backup cannot be considered.
  • Work Environment: This is a fully remote working role.
  • Public Holidays: You will be required to work on all South African public holidays (compensated as per BCEA).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Own the full-cycle general ledger and monthly close process
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and maintain the trial balance
  • Manage balance sheet accounts, including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and lease accounting
  • Prepare and analyze monthly P&L variance reports, providing clear insights into financial performance
  • Handle expense allocations across departments, locations, and cost centers
  • Support cash flow forecasting and budget vs. actual analysis
  • Assist with ad-hoc financial modeling and reporting for leadership decision-making
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
  • Continuously improve accounting processes and systems

Requirements:

  • Several years of progressive accounting experience

  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting processes

  • Proven experience with:

  • Monthly close and general ledger management

  • P&L variance analysis

  • Cash flow forecasting and basic FP&A support

  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling)

  • Tech-savvy with the ability to learn and adapt to new accounting systems

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical thinking

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain financial data clearly

Advantageous:

  • Experience working with multi-entity or multi-location businesses
  • Exposure to US-based companies or international clients
  • Experience with modern accounting platforms and automation tools

Who You Are:

  • A proactive and resourceful problem-solver
  • Detail-oriented while maintaining a big-picture mindset
  • A strong communicator who can translate numbers into insights
  • Collaborative, positive, and eager to grow within a fast-paced environment
