Engineering Manager - Inventory
Added 8 hours agoLet’s fix hospitality, for good.
Hospitality is tough – margins are thin, waste is high, and teams are stretched. But it doesn’t have to be this hard. That’s why we built Nory.
Our CEO, Conor, knows the pain first-hand. After founding and scaling Mad Egg in Ireland, he got fed up with juggling “market-leading” systems, clunky spreadsheets, and endless printouts. So he set out to build the tool he wished he’d had from day one.
Nory is an all-knowing restaurant management system. It blends real-time data with AI predictive analytics, giving operators control of their margins. From food prep to forecasting, it’s operational intelligence that helps restaurants run with consistency, certainty, and profit. The result? Thriving restaurants, better jobs, less waste, healthier margins.
And we’re just getting started. Fresh off a Series B led by Kinnevik, we’ve grown to 80+ people across Ireland, the UK, Spain and New York - and demand is scaling faster than we ever imagined.
The role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Inventory team. You’ll lead 2-3 small teams building and scaling a system of record for Inventory data that underpins autonomous ordering and accounts payable automation within Nory’s platform. These systems turn messy operational restaurant data into a reliable source of truth used daily by multi-site operators to raise the level of automation and drive operational efficiency in their businesses. Learn more about what we are building here.
This is primarily a leadership role focused on enabling team success. Your performance will be measured by the outcomes your teams deliver: product impact, platform reliability, and the growth of the engineers and teams you support.
You’ll set direction for the squad, coach engineers, and ensure strong execution across product and technical initiatives. While you’ll remain close to the technical work and may contribute to code where helpful, the role’s primary responsibility is leading the team and ensuring the squad consistently delivers high-impact outcomes.
The teams you’ll work with are small, nimble and packed full of top engineering talent that can tackle the hardest challenges in engineering, machine learning and AI at pace. Our ambition is to build one of the best product teams in Europe, so we need leaders who also can work at the same level and share our ambition.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll focus on helping your squad deliver meaningful product outcomes:
Lead a cross-functional engineering squad, setting direction, enabling delivery, and ensuring the team ships reliable solutions that solve real operational problems.
Own team outcomes, ensuring your squad consistently delivers impactful work while maintaining strong engineering standards.
Develop engineers through coaching and feedback, helping them grow their technical and product capabilities.
Drive delivery discipline, ensuring the team prioritises effectively, manages scope, and lands work reliably.
Partner closely with Product, Data, Design, and Customer teams to deliver cutting edge AI solutions in an applied domain.
Stay close to the technical work, guiding architecture, reviewing code, and helping unblock engineers when needed.
Foster a healthy, high-performing team culture with clear expectations, strong communication, and accountability.
The team are working on complex problems such as:
Ensuring inventory data integrity across orders, invoices, stock counts, recipes, waste, and supplier data.
Building a highly accurate system of record for precise measurement of COGS and stock value, including reconciliation challenges such as opening and closing stock alignment, VAT handling, and supplier pricing logic.
Reducing operational overhead and driving efficiency through automation with machine learning.
Using LLMs to support explainable AI, meaning automated decisions can be traced, verified, explained, challenged and trusted by our customers.
In your first 6 months, you will:
Work on groundbreaking/innovative applications of ML/AI in our industry
Continue building the foundations for Nory to act as a system of record for all customer inventory data.
What you’ll bring
Engineering leadership: You’ve led an engineering squad and take accountability for team outcomes, team health, and delivery. You understand that success is measured by what the team achieves collectively.
Coaching and people development: You run structured 1:1s, give clear feedback, and help engineers grow their technical and product capabilities.
Product-focused delivery: You’ve delivered meaningful initiatives within a cross-functional squad (Engineering, Product, Design, Data), producing measurable customer or commercial outcomes.
Strong product judgement: You work closely with Product to shape scope, make pragmatic trade-offs, and keep the team focused on impact rather than output.
Technical credibility: You’re an experienced engineer who can guide architectural decisions, review work, and help unblock the team when needed.
Systems thinking: You reason clearly about scale, reliability, data flow, and long-term maintainability as the product grows.
Clear communication: You bring structure to complex discussions and build alignment across engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
Nice to have
Experience building financial or inventory systems of record.
Experience working with high-integrity operational or accounting data.
Exposure to automation, AI-assisted workflows, or ML-driven decision systems.
Experience supporting enterprise customers with audit or compliance needs.
