Shipping and Receiving Manager | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI

American factories deserve a supply chain that moves as fast as they do. The next generation of American manufacturing is being built right now. Nox Metals is the supply chain behind it.

Nox Metals is a technology company in Detroit supplying aluminum plate, bar, and rounds to aerospace and defense manufacturers. We use software and automation to supply metal to American factories faster than the industry thought possible.

We need a Shipping and Receiving Manager to own every pound of metal that moves in or out of our facility. Every inbound mill load, every outbound customer shipment, every hot shot, every parcel. If it touches a dock, it is yours. Nox Metals is an employer with real opportunity for long term career growth, this is a place to build a career, not just hold a job.

You will:

  • Own all inbound and outbound logistics, FTL, LTL, hot shots, parcel, and everything in between

  • Manage our internal CDL drivers and the carriers, brokers, and 3PLs we work with

  • Source, negotiate, and manage relationships with FTL and LTL carriers, hot shot providers, and parcel accounts (FedEx, UPS, and others)

  • Build and maintain a carrier scorecard, on-time performance, damage rate, cost per mile, claims

  • Quote freight on every outbound order and find the fastest, cheapest, most reliable option for every load

  • Schedule inbound mill deliveries and coordinate dock times so material flows in without bottlenecks

  • Schedule outbound shipments to hit every customer delivery commitment

  • Run forklifts and overhead cranes when the dock needs an extra set of hands

  • Verify every inbound load against the PO and every outbound load against the order

  • Own BOLs, packing slips, cert packages, and shipping documentation, accurate every time

  • Track every shipment in our software systems and make sure customers know where their material is

  • File and chase damage claims, shortages, and delivery exceptions until they are resolved

  • Build dashboards and reports on freight spend, on-time performance, and lane economics

  • Always ask questions, never guess when something is unclear

  • Look at every lane, every carrier, every process and figure out how to make it better

  • Work safely every shift and hold your teammates to the same standard

You should be:

  • 3 to 4+ years of experience managing shipping and receiving in a manufacturing, metals service center, or distribution environment

  • Fluent in FTL, LTL, hot shot, expedited, and parcel logistics, you know the carriers, the rates, the lanes

  • Skilled at carrier negotiation and account management, you can build a network and hold it accountable

  • Comfortable managing drivers and dock teams day to day

  • Cracked with software and spreadsheets, you can build a freight scorecard from scratch and run it like a hawk

  • Committed to safety, you follow every protocol, wear your PPE, and never cut corners that put people at risk

  • High attention to quality, every cert, every BOL, every label

  • Always thinking about how to make processes better, you do not accept "this is how we have always done it"

  • Absolutely customer obsessed, the dock is the last touchpoint before a customer experiences Nox

  • A team player with a good attitude, you make the floor better for everyone around you

  • Someone who takes ownership, if it ships or receives, it is your responsibility

  • Precise under pressure, late shipments and missed dock times are not options

  • Organized enough to run dozens of inbound and outbound loads in a single day without dropping one

  • High agency, you handle big items alone and ask for help when needed

  • Low ego, you do the unglamorous work because it needs to get done

  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs and operate heavy equipment on your feet when the dock needs you

  • Not afraid to work outside normal hours when America demands it

  • Never says "that's not my job"

Nice to have:

  • Experience in metals, aluminum, or aerospace/defense supply chains

  • Forklift and/or overhead crane certification

  • Familiarity with TMS, freight rating tools, or carrier APIs

  • Comfortable using AI tools to work faster and smarter
