Supply Chain Engineer
Supply Chain Engineer | Nox Metals | Detroit, MI
American factories deserve a supply chain that moves as fast as they do. The next generation of American manufacturing is being built right now. Nox Metals is the supply chain behind it.
Nox Metals is a technology company in Detroit supplying aluminum plate, bar, and rounds to aerospace and defense manufacturers. We use software and automation to supply metal to American factories faster than the industry thought possible.
We need a Supply Chain Engineer to be the brains of our material pipeline from mill to customer. This is a strategic, deeply technical role, building the models, the supplier network, and the procurement intelligence that gives Nox a real cost and lead time advantage. Nox Metals is an employer with real opportunity for long term career growth, this is a place to build a career, not just hold a job.
You will:
Source and manage relationships with mills, distributors, and aluminum suppliers across North America and globally
Build and own inventory models across alloys, tempers, thicknesses, and product forms
Build and own demand models that predict what we need to buy, when, and at what price
Run procurement strategy, when to buy, how much to buy, where to buy from, and why
Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, and PO structures with mills and distributors
Track mill schedules, rolling cycles, and market dynamics to time purchases for maximum advantage
Ensure DFARS, AMS, and ASTM compliance on every material cert
Build dashboards and intelligence on supplier performance, lead times, pricing trends, and lane economics
Partner with the software team to build procurement intelligence into NOX NEST, WAYNE, and our internal tools
Mentor and direct the Supply Chain Associate on day-to-day execution
Find suppliers, deals, and angles other people do not think exist or think are impossible
Always ask questions, never guess when something is unclear
Look at every process and figure out how to make it better
Work safely every shift and hold your teammates to the same standard
You should be:
4 to 5+ years of supply chain or procurement experience in metals, manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or comparable regulated industries
Deep technical expertise in inventory modeling, demand forecasting, and procurement strategy
Strong negotiator with a track record of building real supplier relationships and unlocking real pricing wins
Fluent in DFARS, AMS, and ASTM material requirements
Cracked with AI tools, spreadsheets, modern software, and data, you build models that other people would call dashboards
Tightly partnered with engineering teams in past roles, comfortable writing specs, filing tickets, and shaping the tools you use
High attention to quality, every cert, every PO, every shipment
Always thinking about how to make processes better, you do not accept "this is how we have always done it"
Absolutely customer obsessed, delivery timelines start with what we buy and when
A team player with a good attitude, you make the company better for everyone around you
Someone who takes ownership, if it touches the inbound material pipeline, it is your responsibility
Precise under pressure and reliable
Organized and detail oriented
High agency, you handle big items alone and ask for help when needed
Low ego, you do the unglamorous work because it needs to get done
Committed to safety, you follow every protocol, wear your PPE, and never cut corners that put people at risk
Not afraid to work outside normal hours when America demands it
Never says "that's not my job"
Nice to have:
Direct experience buying aluminum plate, bar, or rounds from mills and master distributors
Background working with the global aluminum supply chain, US, Canada, Europe, and Asia
Track record building procurement intelligence systems or supplier scorecards from scratch
Comfortable using AI tools to work faster and smarter
