Pyramid Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Vocational Specialist (Qualified Professional) to join our Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACTT) in Mars Hill, NC. This community-based role is ideal for someone passionate about helping individuals with severe mental illness achieve greater independence through employment support, life skills coaching, housing stability, and recovery-focused services.

Our ACT Team is a “hospital without walls” model, delivering high-intensity behavioral health treatment directly in the community. We meet clients where they are—at home, work, or in the community—to remove barriers and create lasting progress.

Position Summary

The Vocational Specialist (QP) supports individuals served by the ACT Team in obtaining and maintaining competitive employment, improving daily functioning, and accessing community resources. This role works closely with a multidisciplinary team to develop person-centered plans that support recovery, independence, and long-term success.

Key Responsibilities

Vocational & Employment Support

  • Assist individuals in identifying career goals, strengths, and interests
  • Support job readiness, resume building, interview preparation, and applications
  • Develop relationships with local employers and community partners
  • Provide job coaching and retention support after placement
  • Promote competitive employment opportunities aligned with recovery goals

Housing & Community Integration

  • Assist clients with securing and maintaining stable housing
  • Connect individuals with transportation, benefits, and community resources
  • Support independent living skills, budgeting, and daily functioning

Clinical & Team Collaboration

  • Participate in treatment planning and interdisciplinary team meetings
  • Provide progress updates and recommendations to the treatment team
  • Coordinate with families, referral sources, and outside providers as needed

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of services provided
  • Maintain compliance with ACTT, Medicaid, CARF, and state regulations
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and peer record reviews

Crisis & Community Response

  • Provide transportation for clients when needed
  • Participate in rotating crisis response / emergency coverage as assigned
  • Assist with hospital diversion and community stabilization efforts

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Human Services, or related field
  • Must meet Qualified Professional (QP) status under NC regulations (10A NCAC 27G.0104)
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work in the community and transport clients as needed

Preferred

  • Experience in vocational rehabilitation, supported employment, housing services, ACTT, or mental health
  • Experience working with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness
  • Master’s degree in Human Services field
