Coinbase Advanced is our advanced trading platform, intended for a more experienced trader. It offers a secure and easy way to buy, sell, and trade digital assets online across various trading pairs.

We are looking for a Staff Software Engineer to lead the front-end technical strategy for this platform. This role is designed for a technical leader who can drive significant performance improvements across our web and mobile clients while mentoring a growing team of engineers. This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of crypto, trading infrastructure, and consumer product — tackling exciting engineering challenges while contributing directly to Coinbase’s core business

What you’ll be doing:

Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to define and execute a technical roadmap for a reliable, scalable trading platform
Lead the technical initiative to deliver a low latency interface for experienced traders across all platforms
Provide technical guidance and career mentorship to engineers. You will anchor complex projects and ensure high standards for code quality and system design

What we look for in you:

8+ years of experience in software engineering, specifically within modern front-end frameworks and mobile environments.
Proven track record of optimizing complex systems, with a focus on rendering performance, network efficiency, and state management
Demonstrated leadership ability, including experience mentoring senior engineers and driving organizational improvements
Strong communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical challenges into actionable plans for stakeholders

Nice to haves:

You have gone through a rapid growth in your company (from 10 to 100s of engineers)
You have experience building a low latency trading system
You have experience with Blockchains (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum etc.)
You have experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices
You’ve worked with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Sinatra, Rails, Postgres
Crypto-forward experience, including familiarity with onchain activity such as interacting with Ethereum addresses, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.
