What makes this role exciting

The Manager, Platform Design, is a highly skilled technical leader who exceeds in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust and scalable infrastructure solutions for CloudPay’s technology platform.

Reporting to the Platform Engineering Director, this role oversees a team of engineers dedicated to this mission. This position requires a deep understanding of Infrastructure such as Code (IaC) principles, cloud technologies, and DevOps practices.

The Manager balances high-level strategic oversight with team management, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment while ensuring continuous improvement in CI/CD pipelines and platform reliability.

Main responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Team Management

• Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of platform engineers, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performing culture.

• Technical Guidance & Governance: Provide expert technical guidance to the team, ensuring all implementations align with architectural standards and industry best practices. Performance & Talent Development: Manage the full performance lifecycle, including regular reviews, feedback, and the creation of development plans to facilitate engineering growth.

• Resource & Project Management: Effectively allocate tasks and resources to ensure timely project delivery and optimal team utilization across multiple workstreams.

• Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner closely with Platform Architect and the Director to define designs, translate vision into actionable roadmaps, and dissolve complex technical challenges.

Platform Design & DevOps Excellence

• Architectural Implementation: Lead the design and implementation of complex infrastructure solutions using Terraform , ensuring they scale with CloudPay's global requirements.

• Internal Development Platform (IDP): Drive the design and development of major IDP features, ensuring the platform enhances developer productivity and adheres to scalability principles. DevOps Advocacy: Evangelize and drive the continuous improvement of DevOps practices across the department, ensuring alignment with modern architectural principles.

• Production & Incident Oversight: Act as the escalation point for complex production support project, guiding the team through root cause analysis (RCA) and implementing long-term solutions to minimize downtime.

CI/CD & Automation Optimisation

• Pipeline Engineering: Design and maintain robust, efficient CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, test, and deployment of infrastructure and applications.

• Quality Assurance: Refine automated testing framework to guarantee the reliability and security of all platform components.

• Observability: Implement comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions to proactively detect and mitigate issues within the CI/CD pipelines and the broader platform.

Experience needed for this role

• Extensive experience in infrastructure engineering or DevOps, with a proven track record of managing or leading technical teams.

• Demonstrated success in mentoring engineers to achieve technical excellence and career progression.

• Deep Technical Expertise: Mastery of Terraform, CI/CD tooling (e.g., Argo CD, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD), and major cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

• Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python, Bash, or Groovy.

• Advanced knowledge of networking, security, and system administration.

• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic decision-making abilities.

• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple high-impact projects in a fast-paced environment. A passion for automation, technical excellence, and continuous operational improvement.
