This is a leadership role and is part of our Ports & Maritime team, supporting and working closely with the Business/Sector Lead and the senior members of the Ports team. Importantly it provides a strong link into our Transportation Global Business Line, as well as across AECOM’s UK&I business including Buildings & Places, Environment & Energy and Water business lines.

About You

You will be a market facing champion, influencing the business to build the right relationships and pursue the right opportunities working and collaborating with other business lines. You are a highly motivated, organised, and proactive leader with a proven track record in the ports and marine consultancy industry. Your deep understanding of the UK&I and European Ports and maritime markets, coupled with your grasp of the social, political, and economic drivers that influence it, will be integral to your success in this role. A champion for client focus and development with experience in leading diverse teams in a fast-paced environment, you have excelled in identifying, planning and delivering successful key pursuits from positioning to award while driving data-led performance improvements. As a leader you are responsible for fostering a culture of success, engagement, and development within the team.

Here’s what we’re looking for:

The Ports and Marine business has a number of opportunities for growth and a wide geographic remit. We are looking for you to bring your existing client knowledge/contacts in areas such as; defense, freight, cruise, ferry terminals and offshore wind opportunities, and be able to prioritise, focus and grow our business.

Key Responsibilities

Identify, position, plan and prioritise business development activities in the market and with clients Work in accordance with the Business Plan that fully reflects the market growth potential and position AECOM as the premiere Ports & Maritime consultant in EU&I by market share and reputation.
Identify key clients and key pursuits (both external and internal across the AECOM business). Prepare key client management plans and key pursuit plans, maintaining a strong and achievable pipeline of opportunities. Create a strong client-centric culture for our delivery in this market. Develop and maintain existing client relationships looking to build trusted advisor status across key clients. Build effective working relationships with the AECOM Work Winning/Business Development community to maintain momentum towards our growth plans and ensure collaboration across sectors and geographies.
Lead major Ports and Marine pursuit proposals and support other proposals. Leverage the wider AECOM network and other business lines to enhance capability and work winning strategies. Support the wider global Transportation Business Line in the identification, winning and delivery of major projects in the EU&I and globally

Here’s what we’re looking for:

The following experience is necessary as the minimum requirements for the role of a Ports & Maritime Client Director.

Ports & Maritime Market Knowledge and Understanding: Experience in Ports & Maritime planning, design, engineering and construction at a senior professional level with a minimum of 15 years in ports or civil infrastructure market Project Management and Delivery: Previous experience in leading multi-disciplinary project teams and delivering projects, including contractual arrangements, to required quality standards, on time and within budget. Business Development: A track record of winning work and exceeding business growth targets Client Focus: Experience of developing and maintaining client relationships and work backlog with new and existing clients. International experience: Some experience with international clients and partners and/or working in an international setting. Advisory Experience: Able to demonstrate a strong client and stakeholder network within the Ports & Maritime industry which will translate into winning and delivering Port & Maritime projects in the advisory sector.

Preferred Qualifications

Membership of a recognised professional body in an appropriate discipline. Master’s or Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate discipline.
