We are looking for

The Open Home Foundation is looking for an Events Associate based in Europe to join our Community team.

This is not a traditional corporate events role. We are not here to run polished trade show booths or formal conference programmes. We are here to create genuine community experiences - spaces where contributors, users, developers, and partners can connect, collaborate, and feel part of something bigger than themselves.

Together with the Events Manager and the broader Community team, you will support a diverse calendar of events, from flagship moments like the State of the Open Home to community meetups, partner events, and our presence at industry events like IFA. You will also play a key role in how we show up digitally, supporting online events, virtual meetups, and community-facing programming.

What you are going to do

  • Event Planning and Delivery: Work alongside the Events Manager to plan and deliver a growing calendar of Open Home Foundation events, including support with logistics (end-to-end venue and vendor sourcing, travel and accommodation arrangements, signage, etc) and budget tracking.

  • Community Experience: Support the Events Manager and Community Lead in identifying opportunities to involve community members, contributors, and partners in our events. Assist them in gathering and collecting feedback from attendees and contribute to both the development of our events’ identity and to the creation of a warm, inclusive and community-first environment.

  • Online and Hybrid Events: Support the planning and delivery (including technical set-up) of online community events including virtual meetups, live streams, AMAs, and panel sessions, as well as hybrid remote/in-person events.

  • Communications and Promotion: Work with the Community team to promote events across community channels including forums, Discord, social media, and newsletters. This will include event communication (save the date, registration pages) and event content (programs, speaker briefings).

  • Reporting and Learning: Maintain clear records of event activity, cost and outcomes. Track and report on key event metrics including attendance, engagement, satisfaction scores, and geographic reach.

What you need to have

  • 2 or more years of experience in event coordination, event support, or a closely related role.

  • Some demonstrable experience supporting the planning and delivery of events of varying scale, from small meetups to larger conferences or trade show appearances.

  • Experience supporting budget tracking and working with external suppliers and venues.

  • Adaptability and flexibility when dealing with setbacks and timelines.

  • A genuine passion for community and a belief that bringing people together creates real value.

  • Comfortable with travel, including occasional international travel for events.

  • Professional Fluency in English: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

  • European Residency: You must be currently based and eligible to work within Europe.

It would be great if you also have

  • Experience coordinating online or hybrid events.

  • Experience working in or with open source, tech, or community-driven organisations.

  • A passion for smart homes and automation.

  • Experience as a Home Assistant user.

What we offer you

The Open Home Foundation is a fully remote organization that uses Remote to employ people from all over the world. You will be a normal salaried employee in your country.

This is a full-time position for 40 hours per week. Because we are a fully remote company, there is no fixed schedule. For the purpose of team communication, we do try to ensure at least 3 hours of overlap in the workday. You will report to the Community Lead, who is based in the UK.

Core to the establishment of the Open Home Foundation was the well-being of the people building the future of the smart home. We will provide all the benefits required by the country you reside in. However, we also want to make sure all our employees, regardless of country of origin, get at least a minimal set of benefits, including:

  • Twenty-five days of paid time off.

  • Fourteen days of paid sick leave if your country/laws treat them as unpaid.

  • A budget for your work hardware once you start. After three years, you may keep this equipment for personal use.

  • A 50% contribution to your internet connection fee at your home workspace.

  • One day every two weeks to work on your personal projects.

  • If you are currently working on Home Assistant-related side projects, you can spend work time maintaining them.

When first offering a position to a new member, the Open Home Foundation aims to provide a total compensation package that matches the 75th percentile for the new hire's role, seniority, and local market rates. For an Events Associate in our primary operating countries, the approximate yearly compensation will be the following:

  • Netherlands: 52.000 EUR.

  • UK: 44.000 GBP.

  • Spain: 38.000 EUR.

  • Portugal: 36.000 EUR.
    Italy: 40.000 EUR.

  • Other countries: compensation can be discussed during the first interview.

These figures may be adjusted based on experience, qualifications, and work hours.
