Role Description
We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to lead the development of systems that manage our growing fleet of devices - the foundation of Gridware’s distributed sensing network. The technology you build will empower Fleet Health operators to monitor device performance, issue firmware updates, and ensure our sensors operate reliably and securely at scale.
You’ll work across backend services, internal tools, and observability systems - designing the infrastructure that keeps thousands of edge devices connected and healthy. This is a hands-on, high-ownership role at the intersection of software, hardware, and operations - perfect for engineers who thrive on building platforms that directly enable real-world impact.
Responsibilities
- Design and build systems for device management, fleet monitoring, and firmware deployment.
- Develop backend and internal tooling to support large-scale operational workflows.
- Collaborate closely with firmware, hardware, and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and real-time observability.
- Implement metrics, dashboards, and alerting pipelines to improve visibility into fleet health and reliability.
- Scale systems to support exponential device growth while maintaining performance and security.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience at product-driven companies
- Ability to thrive in a low structure, high-autonomy environment with competing priorities
- You’ve built something from the ground up with broad ownership
- Experience with Python, React, Typescript, PostgreSQL
Bonus Skills
- Experience building human-in-the-loop or operationally complex tooling
- Experience with observability tooling such as OpenTelemetry, Grafana, and Mimir
- Experience working in hardware/software contexts
USD 180,000 - 200,000 a year
This describes the ideal candidate; many of us have picked up this expertise along the way. Even if you meet only part of this list, we encourage you to apply!

Company
Gridware has built a platform that delivers real-time visibility into electrical, physical, and environmental conditions by capturing information directly at the pole. The system introduces an Active Grid Response approach, characterized by immediate detection, precise localization, detailed identification, and monitoring during outages. With more than 90 million field hours in the field, Gridware partners with utilities to help crews reach the right location quickly, act with the right information, and extend asset life while reducing risk and outages. The company focuses on arming line workers with timely data to spend more of their time fixing the grid rather than searching for problems.
