The Production Manager reports directly to the SLT Head of Operations and is a key member of the Vantive Castlebar Management Team. You will manage multiple manufacturing teams, including supervisors and manufacturing staff, to meet production schedules and customer commitments. You will support the overall site vision and initiate improvements to ensure processes meet current and future requirements for quality, growth, flexibility, and cost improvement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Department Management
Manage department supervisors and support staff to deliver best‑in‑class safety, quality, and production results
Lead and motivate direct reports to embed a culture of continuous learning and knowledge sharing throughout the organization
Champion Operational Excellence (OPEX) behaviours and ensure alignment with site‑wide performance expectations
Operational Performance
Collaborate with other manufacturing operations management staff and customers to ensure quality commitments are met
Ensure products are provided to customers on time, meeting product quality, yield, operating costs, and process efficiencies
Approve instructions relating to production operations and ensure their strict implementation
Ensure production records are evaluated and signed by an authorized person before being sent to the Quality Assurance Department
Drive OPEX initiatives to improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance process capability using Lean, Six Sigma, and problem‑solving methodologies
Maintenance and Validation
Collaborate with maintenance teams to identify and address potential issues along with process improvements
Ensure that necessary validations are performed and that processes and systems meet the specified requirements
Manage area of responsibility to ensure GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and GDP (Gross Distribution Practice) requirements are met and adhered to
Apply OPEX tools to strengthen equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and optimise asset utilisation.
Environmental, Health, and Safety
Adhere to all environmental health and safety SOPs and equipment policies and procedures, including department‑specific requirements
Promote OPEX‑driven safety improvements, including root‑cause analysis and proactive risk‑reduction activities
Resource Management
Manage inter‑department and inter‑functional relationships and optimise resources
Lead, inspire, and develop your team to drive continuous improvements
Develop and implement a manufacturing budget to align with the plant strategic plan
Continuously reduce manufacturing costs through the VIP (Value Improving Practices) programme, ensuring current and future budgeted costs are achieved
Actively lead the Vantive Operating System progression within areas of responsibility
Embed OPEX principles into daily management systems, tiered accountability, and performance dashboards
Training and Development
Ensure required initial and continuing training of department personnel is carried out and adapted according to need
Provide feedback, learning, and development plans for team members
Prioritize team resources to meet Company and department targets
Build OPEX capability across the team through coaching, structured problem‑solving, and skills development in Lean methodologies
Key Skills and Experience
Qualifications
- 3rd‑level qualification
Leadership and Management
Leadership and people management experience
Management experience in a GMP facility
Demonstrated experience leading OPEX, Lean, or continuous improvement initiatives
Financial and Budgeting
- Financial and budget reporting experience
Problem‑Solving and Communication
Innovative problem solver with a continuous improvement mindset
Excellent presentation and communication skills
Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills
Ability to apply structured OPEX tools (e.g., DMAIC, Kaizen, 5S, Value Stream Mapping)
