Chief Anti-Money Laundering Officer (Chief AML Officer / CAMLO)\n\nIndustry: Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, Investment\n\nJob Type: Full-Time\n\nReporting To: Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) / Chief Risk Officer (CRO) / Board Compliance Committee\n\nJob Summary\n\nThe Chief AML Officer (CAMLO) is responsible for leading the organization's Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter-Terrorist Financing (CFT), and financial crime prevention programs. This role ensures compliance with all applicable AML/CFT regulations and protects the organization from financial crime risks, including money laundering, terrorist financing, fraud, and sanctions violations.\n\nThe CAMLO serves as the primary authority on AML matters, overseeing policies, systems, investigations, and regulatory engagement to maintain a strong compliance and risk management framework.\n\nKey Responsibilities\n\n1. AML/CFT Strategy & Program Management\n\nDevelop and implement enterprise-wide AML/CFT strategies and frameworks\n\nEnsure alignment with regulatory requirements and international standards (e.g., FATF guidelines)\n\nContinuously enhance AML programs to address emerging risks\n\nPromote a strong financial crime compliance culture\n\n2. Regulatory Compliance & Reporting\n\nEnsure compliance with AML/CFT laws, regulations, and regulatory expectations\n\nOversee timely and accurate regulatory reporting (e.g., suspicious transaction reports – STRs)\n\nAct as the primary liaison with regulators and financial intelligence units (FIUs)\n\nManage regulatory inspections, audits, and reviews\n\n3. Customer Due Diligence (CDD/KYC)\n\nOversee KYC, CDD, and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) processes\n\nEnsure proper onboarding and monitoring of customers\n\nImplement risk-based customer profiling and segmentation\n\nMonitor high-risk customers and politically exposed persons (PEPs)\n\n4. Transaction Monitoring & Investigations\n\nOversee transaction monitoring systems and suspicious activity detection\n\nLead investigations into suspicious transactions and financial crime risks\n\nEnsure timely escalation and reporting of suspicious activities\n\nCollaborate with law enforcement and regulatory bodies when required\n\n5. Sanctions & Financial Crime Risk Management\n\nManage sanctions screening and compliance programs\n\nEnsure adherence to international sanctions regimes\n\nIdentify and mitigate financial crime risks across the organization\n\nImplement controls to prevent fraud, bribery, and corruption\n\n6. Policies, Controls & Governance\n\nDevelop and maintain AML policies, procedures, and internal controls\n\nEnsure audit readiness and documentation standards\n\nConduct regular AML risk assessments\n\nAlign AML programs with enterprise risk and compliance frameworks\n\n7. Training & Awareness\n\nDevelop AML training programs for employees\n\nPromote awareness of AML/CFT obligations and risks\n\nEnsure staff understand policies and reporting requirements\n\nFoster a culture of vigilance and compliance\n\n8. Leadership & Team Management\n\nLead and develop AML and financial crime compliance teams\n\nEstablish performance standards and accountability\n\nDrive continuous improvement and innovation in AML practices\n\nSupport talent development and succession planning\n\nKey Requirements\n\nEducation\n\nBachelor's or Master's degree in Finance, Law, Business Administration, or related field\n\nProfessional certifications such as CAMS, ICA, or equivalent are highly preferred\n\nExperience\n12–18+ years of experience in AML, compliance, financial crime, or risk roles\n\nProven experience in senior AML leadership roles (e.g., Chief AML Officer, Head of AML, Financial Crime Leader)\n\nStrong background in banking, financial services, insurance, or investment sectors\n\nSkills & Competencies\n\nDeep knowledge of AML/CFT regulations and frameworks (e.g., FATF, local regulations)\n\nExpertise in KYC, transaction monitoring, and investigations\n\nStrong analytical and risk assessment skills\n\nLeadership and team management\n\nExcellent communication and stakeholder engagement\n\nHigh ethical standards and attention to detail\n\nAbility to manage complex regulatory environments\n\nKey Performance Indicators (KPIs)\n\nCompliance with AML/CFT regulations\n\nTimeliness and accuracy of STR/SAR filings\n\nEffectiveness of transaction monitoring systems\n\nReduction in financial crime risks and incidents\n\nAudit and regulatory inspection outcomes\n\nEmployee AML training completion and awareness\n\nPreferred Attributes\n\nExperience in multinational or highly regulated financial institutions\n\nStrong relationships with regulators and FIUs\n\nExposure to regtech and AML technology solutions\n\nAbility to manage complex financial crime risks\n\nCompensation & Benefits\n\nCompetitive executive salary\n\nPerformance-based incentives\n\nExecutive benefits and allowances
